TUN MAHATHIR IN BUKIT GANTANG

Tun Mahathir arrived at Dataran PPP in Simpang, Taiping this morning on his election campaign trail. Tun was mobbed by more than 5,000 people who surged to shake hands with him.

At the rally, Tun smashed Bukit Gantang PAS's candidate, Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin for giving out permanent land title to villagers in the state.

"He (Nizar) is doing everything to be popular. He is not sincere," he said to thunderous applause from the floor.

Tun also smashed Nizar for defying Sultan Azlan Shah`s order to resign and renewed his attacks on Anwar who was too impatient to be rise in rank and irresponsible.

“That man only knows how to create uncertainty. He promised something big would happen on Sept 16 (last year) but nothing happened. Then he promised something special for the people, and nothing materialised,” he said to loud cheers.

Tun said even though we are a liberalised country but it was not easy to run a multi-racial country.

"If we do something for a certain group of people, the other groups will be upset. I kena marah (scolded) for 22 years but never mind, I sudah biasa (used to it)," he said.

Saying that now he has officially rejoined UMNO, Tun fully supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak,UMNO ,BN and Ismail Saffian , a local boy, as the most appropriate Bukit Gantang candidate.

Tun called those who had left the party to return back to the party like him.

“Times have changed. The government today is truly for the people. So I am urging those who had left Umno, please come back,” he said.

Tun said he was confident that with the new present administration , steps would be taken to address people’s unhappiness.

"What do we get by demonstrating on the streets, except causing damage?

"Street demonstrations are not part of Malaysian culture and are a waste of time. Dialogue is the best way to resolve unhappiness and differences."

Tun called on the people to work together with the government for the nation and rakyat.

And as he completed his speech, Tun was given a standing ovation.

Tun`s presence in Bukit Gantang is like the return of an old warrior to the political areana after about 4 years of absence. Tun is garnering votes in this last leg of election campaign trail.

Many look towards Tun rejoining UMNO as the unifying factor in UMNO and spark for the renewal of BN towards the Vision of attaining One Malaysia under the leadership of the Datuk Seri Najib Razak,the 6th Prime Minister.

Since merdeka, the rakyat of Malaysia has grown,work and built this One Malaysia to this level for all. There is no or U-turn back now. Let not race, language ,culture or party issue put us apart again.

Unveiling Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks in Bukit Gantang?

Today in our walk-about in the town of Bukit Gantang, we were surprised to see Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks been distributed like pancake.

Are the locals here having a Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar Halloween party or a by –election? If not careful, one can see these masks resembling those sacrificial paper offerings used in the on-going Cheng Beng rituals in Bukit Gantang.

Why Altantunya ?

IGP Tan Sri Musa had already clarified that campaign gag covered all pending court cases.

“We have put the condition that criminal matters before the courts cannot be discussed in the open. It is sub judice,” he said, adding that other conditions included barring speakers from touching on seditious matters, using slander or giving out misinformation.

The locals here are taking a risk to challenge the police and a contempt of court charges? People of Bukit Gantang let the court take its course .

By wearing these Altantunya- Anwar -Nizar masks to protest against Barisan Nasional is no show of intelliegent solidarity but victims of manipulation by Anwar and Nizar to gain their political mileage.They are portraying themselves as man with many faces.

In short Anwar and Nizar are `political chameleon` with deceiving character behind those masks.

Quote and unquote- `Nizar claims that he is an impressive man of immense grace and character who represents Perak's future, not its past. The former Perak Menteri Besar is feted by Anwar Ibrahim as the best thing in years to have happened to Malaysia's democratic transition. His record in power is mixed: full of rhetoric, covert intentions to uphold the political free speech, but lacking many practical achievements.`

Now my question is how much do we know Anwar-Nizar behind those halloween masks?

ANWAR, an Islam by faith, still has impending sodomy case to settle. Carrying that baggage along , he supossedly champion for equality for all race and helping the poor but often than not incite racial sentiments that cause rakyat to resort to street demos against each other and the government. Is this called democracy or demos cracy?

He has suposedly slacked while in TPM office and now dreams of becoming PM with his promise of 16 September New Government shattered.

Nizar, with his confused identity of a chinese or malay, makes a mockery of the Perak state government with his TREEmendous dream .

His ` puppeted-administration` by Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and state DAP sceretary Nga Kor Ming incites political chaos in Perak. His uncalled giving of 999 years land titles to the new and planned villages in Perak is much dictated by DAP and created many dissatisfactions among the poor and needy group.

NIZAR never understood the Land Code that govern state land matters.

His refusal to return his Toyota Camry shows his `gangster- greedy` character, as a man who does not respect laws or rules and regulations.

His swearing`Derhaka` at Perak Sultan shows his lack of understanding and respect for the Constitution and his dissatisfaction of being dismissed.Is this a man of grace and character that we can entrust the future of Perak to his hands?

Unveiling Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks got us to see the manifested faces of Anwar-Nizar.

To the Bukit Gantang voters, do not be stressed out by the deceptions of these 2 politcal chameleons.

THINK RIGHT for the good of Bukit Gantang. You do not have to be frightened or live behind their masks too?

One can imagine the competitive race to outbeat each other in raising banners, flags and heated ceramahs in any town each time when there is an election going on.

Bukit Gantang is of no exception this time around. Eventhough the election day is just round the corner now, but what strikes us most is that at this time of economic meltdown, PAS can afford to have such an hype-fanfare.

In any race or battle,the winner takes all and the losers like Ah Kow, Mutu or Ahmad die standing up.

ENTER NAJIB WITH WAVE OF REFORMATION-another PKR plot blown !!!!

Many who used to attend the many night ceramahs will have heard of a PKR intended surprise announcemnt that have something to do with the swearing-in of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as the country’s sixth Prime Minister.


Unfortunately the announcement never came or understood but the swearing –in of 6th Prime Minister went on smoothly as scheduled on 3 April 2009.


In his maiden speech calling for the rakyat to work together to renew Malaysia through ONE MALAYSIA, putting PEOPLE FIRST and PERFORMANCE NOW, Datuk Seri Najib has shown his commitment to change and reform.


He has announced the freeing of the 13 from ISA detention, and to retract the suspension order on two papers - Harakah and Suara Keadilan with immediate effect.

In spite of the fact Anwar himself and PAS welcome the move , PKR de facto leader still protests against this draconian law and also played down the significance of the move, no doubt conscious of the effect it could have on the three by-elections on Tuesday.

Much as many people know, opposition tried hard to discredit Najib since Ijok by-election in 2007.

On the eve of Najib`s formal confirmation to the Presidency of UMNO, the foreign press and major newspapers came out with conspiracy stories on the Altantunya murder and military deals.

As we heard too that Anwar was trying hard to get an appointment with the Agong in the last 10 days but to no avail. Suposedly it seemed Anwar used Federal court judge and legal advisor to Agong to seek Agong not to accept Abdullah's resignation.

PKR promise of September 16 Governmnet was also another blown plot if one may recall.

My question is- Can the people of the 3 by –election still trust such PAKATAN promises that PAKATAN is the reliable party to be voted in as the government ?

The release of the 13 ISA detainees is a timely decision as we move to enhance the confidence of our rakyat in those entrusted with maintaining peace, law and order, while recognising the need to remain vigilant of the very real security threats we continue to face as a young nation.

It is not a sign of bowing down to the demands of PKR nor a PKR victory.

THINK HARD AGAIN before you use the power of your vote.

WE say NO more to instability in the country.We need reforms to ride the economic recession.In this we have to give our supportive mandate to the New Prime Minister for him to show his change .

Bukit Gantang hustings turn dirty-a ploy to dupe the voters

Oops !!! skew me, some Brains had a TREEmendous session thinking why ,why their leaders complained that ceramahs permits issued by the police district chief to them stated specifically that they were not allowed to talk openly about Altantunya case and the decision of the Perak Sultan in State government?

Answer to their WHY :-

TRIPLE BY-ELECTIONS: IGP clarifies that campaign gag covered all pending court cases.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan has clarified that he never gave instructions to the Taiping police district chief to specifically bar Pakatan Rakyat from talking about the Altantunya Shaariibuu court case.

Musa said the police, as a practice, would never state specific cases which were not to be discussed in ceramah.

The public is urged to refer to article 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 of Police Penal code for that matter.

In another note, the fight to gain voters’ support in Bukit Gantang has turned dirty. Numerous poison pen letters and pamphlets running down the Barisan Nasional have been distributed to thousands of households here since Wednesday night.

One letter with an Umno letterhead and allegedly signed by Umno Bukit Gantang division secretary Jamaee Idris stated that BN machinery workers, who helped out on a voluntary basis, will receive payments.

Another alleged that a function organised by the Public Complaints Bureau had free food and featured lucky draws with attractive prizes.

The pamphlets, meanwhile, linked Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak with murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

REPERCUSSIONS:-
A police report was lodged at the Changkat Jering police station today.

Muhyiddin : refuted the allegation and said this was the work of the opposition who were feeling the heat of the BN’s progress with the voters as a result of the transformation to be introduced by the BN..

`They were a ploy by the opposition to dupe the voters and create the impression that there were conflicts in Umno and tarnishing the image of the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Ismail Saffian. `

Zambry: Such actions as irresponsible and immoral.Such tactics was part of a psy-war to confuse the people.

Syed Hamid: For PAS willing to ignore the Police's orders not to make seditious statements when campaigning for the three upcoming by-elections shows the party lacks respect for the law,

WATCH OUT for whatever history that may be created in the TREEmendous session, the world will dupe it as BRAINS wrongly put together to confuse and incite chaos in the country.

The tendency of PAS to "do whatever it thinks is right and likes" could lead to instability in the country.

Such TREEmendous party if voted in to rule will create lawless society.

Panaurama Bukit Gantang -Nizar trembles while BN dishes out TOLs

LAND ISSUE IN PERAK UNFOLD

The granting of many hectares of land to the Chinese communities in the New Villages as well as to Chinese schools and associations have alienated the Malay community who feel that they have been sidelined with the economic pie not being distributed evenly.

CAN THIS BE THE RATIONALE FOR IT?

PAS influence in Perak is minimal as the party only won six state seats unlike their coalition partners DAP and PKR who won more seats than PAS.

But due to the state’s constitution, where it is stated that only a Malay Muslim can become the menteri besar of the state, Nizar Jamaluddin of PAS became the MB as there was no other qualified Malay candidates from PKR who fit the bill.He became a stooge of the DAP who called the shots in running the state.

`Only temporary land titles can be issued, for now; ` ZAMBRY

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is actively holding discussions with all the relevant bodies to enable the Chinese and other communities to get titles to their land.

He, however, said there were certain issues that needed to be addressed first, especially when they went against the provisions of the National Land Code.

In some cases, he added, the state government had issued them with temporary land titles but many still questioned why they were only for 10 years.

“They need to understand that. That is the law. The provision says that even if the maximum is 60 years, it cannot be issued in one go,” he said.

He said the first instalment would be for a maximum of 10, followed by another 10 or 20 or 30, depending on the state government when for renewal came up.

He refuted allegations that he was anti-Chinese and had never tried to prevent the community from getting titles to their land.

The land issue is one of many raised by the opposition in their campaign rounds for the Bukit Gantang by-election.

On promises made by the previous government to issue permanent land title to various quarters, Zambry said he did not know how they had planned to implement them as they were against the provisions under the National Land Code.

“They forgot about the NLC. Although the state and mentris besar have certain power over land matters, when it come to policy matters, it must be agreed by all states.

“In this case, if Perak wants to do it, it must also be implemented by other states.

“Why did Penang, Kelantan, Kedah or Selangor not want to do it too? So this is a policy matter that must be clarified,” he added.

Yes, the three coming by-elections results will determine our country’s direction but past performance is not an indicator of future performance.

LAND is a limited comodity.Therefore it has to be used for national development for all and not as an agenda for political mileage by any parties.

3 BY-ELECTION NOMINATION DAY-UPDATES

As up to the objection period at 11am, 29 MARCH 2009:

BUKIT SELAMBAU-The biggest field of candidates where 15 aspiring candidates filed papers, including Barisan Nasional’s Datuk S.Ganesan and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s S.Manikumar. All candidates were accepted without any objections.

Bukit Selambau has 35,140 voters (15 postal voters) with Malays making up 50.2%, Indians (29.5%), Chinese (19.3%) and others (1%).

In the unprecedented 15-way fight for Bukit Selambau, Ganesan faces the task of wresting the state seat from PKR which held it until V.Arumugam quit last month.

In addition to the two main players, the aspiring candidates are L.Sarala, T.Chandrarajan, R.Loganathan, Tan Hock Huat, Zaharan Abdullah, Major(R) Mohd Fadzli Wahab, Anuar Abdul Hamid, A.Jayagopal, Husaini Yaacob, Abdul Rahim Abu, S.Moganakumar, Venason Michael and Kamis Awang.

SCENARIO AT BUKIT GANTANG

BUKIT GANTANG ousted Menteri Besar Perak-Datuk Seri Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin faces Barisan Nasional’s Ismail Safian and businessman Kamarul Ramizu Idris. There were three objections but all were rejected.

Bukit Gantang has 55,562 registered voters, including 136 voters, of whom 63.5% are Malays, Chinese (27.1%), Indians (9.1 %) and others.

BATANG AI - BN’s Malcolm Mussen Lamoh squares off in a straight fight with PKR’s Jawah Gerang. Two objections were filed but both were rejected. In Batang Ai, there are 8,006 registered voters (43 postal voters) with the Ibans making up 95% and the rest being Malays, Chinese and others.


FANFARE OF ACCOMPANYING SUPPORTERS AT BUKIT GANTANG

Among the 15,000-odd BN supporters accompanying their candidate were UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Wanita UMNO Chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, MIC President Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu and MCA Deputy President Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The PKR supporters were led by the party's Vice-President, Azmin Ali.

UMNO Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Vice-President Datuk Zahid Hamidi led the BN charge for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat as they walked to the nomination centre with Ismail and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Nizar's contingent included PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The Barisan Nasional candidate, Datuk V.Ganesan arrived at the nomination centre accompanied by Director of Operation Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein, former Menteri Besar Datuk Mahadzir Khalid and MIC Party Chief, Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu, Deputy President Datuk G. Palanivel, Vice President Datuk S.Sothinathan and party Secretary General Datuk S.Subramaniam. The PKR candidate S.Manikumar was accompanied PKR Vice President Azmin Ali, who is the party's election director.

The third UMNO Vice-President Datuk Shafie Apdal is in charge of the Batang Ai state seat campaign.

In TAIPING police closed up five roads leading to Taiping town – Jalan Sultan Mansur, Jalan Kota, Jalan Taming Sari, Jalan Temenggong and Jalan Berek – at 6am.

Meanwhile, in LUBOK ANTU, Sarawak, the 38km road leading to Lubok Antu from the junction with the Sri Aman-Miri trunk road was jammed since early morning as many vehicles carrying party supporters, election workers and dignitaries, headed there.

LOOK WHO SHOULD BE IN POWER IN PERAK...???

Like wild fire in the bush, there are many allegations hurled at the legitimacy of the present ruling government in Perak. To understand why, we should first understand the cries of Why the rakyat should support the new government in Perak.

Good to look at the facts behind it for the good of all.



6 SEBAB MENGAPA RAKYAT MESTI
SOKONG KERAJAAN BARU NEGERI PERAK.

1. Barisan Nasional Perak mempunyai 31 sokongan Ahli Dewan dan 28 daripadanya di bawah satu lambang parti iaitu Barisan Nasional.

2. Permainan lompat parti adalah ciptaan Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Oleh itu terimalah akibatnya umpamakan `senjata makan tuan.`

3. Setelah melihat kerakusan kuasa dan penyelewangan yang berlaku dalam kerajaan negeri di bawah kerajaan campuran,ketiga-tiga ADUN Bebas membuat pengorbanan besar dengan mengenepikan kepentingan peribadi jawatan dan menggadai masa depan politik mereka untuk negara dan bangsa.

4. DYMM Sultan Perak berhak melantik Menteri Besar baru yang mendapat kepercayaan sebahagian besar daripada ahli- ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri dan secara automatik mendirikan kerajaan baru di Perak. Mengikut undang- undang tubuh negeri Perak 16(2) mengatakan bahawa rakyat wajar menyokong pendirian ADUN yang mereka pilih.

5. Mengikut fasal (18)(2) DYMM Sultan Perak bolehlah memutuskan mengikut pertimbangannya sendiri melantik seorang Menteri Besar dan keengganan untuk membubarkan DUN.

6. Apabila YB Nizar Jamaluddin mengistiharkan pembubaran DUN tanpa perkenanan DYMM Sultan Perak bermakna beliau telah menerima hakikat bahawa beliau tidak lagi mendapat kepercayaan sebilangan besar Ahli Dun. Maka mengikut pertimbangan DYMM Sultan Perak, maka wajarlah dilantik seorang Menteri Besar yang baru.

PASssssssed for all ????

Pas has named its candidate at its ceramah in Simpang last night.Former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin has been chosen as the PAS candidate for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election on 7 April.

Mohammad Nizar who is Perak PAS deputy commissioner, is also the Pasir Panjang state assemblyman. He was chosen among the four potential candidates for the seat. The other in the running were Ustaz Deris, Dr.Jamnul Azhar and Ustaz Kamarudddin.

Presently amongst others, Nizar is in the midst of High Court case for his so-called` deposed` Menteri Besar post in the Perak State Government.

It is also reported that Nik Aziz too opposed Nizar’s candidacy in Bukit Gantang , the citing that he should focus on getting back his `deposed` Perak state government.

My question is if later Nizar is convicted guilty or wrong against odds, will there be another by-election again for Bukit Gantang? Is there no other capable leaders in PAS ? Will the Bukit Gantang voters be swayed to give him his sympathy votes and continue on the` kecoh`/ prolong the political turbulence in Perak?

PAS for all or all will PASs huh?

Bukit Gantang voters -think right .Political stablilty is the not the thing to be PAS-sed off if to ride through this global economic turmoil. Do not PASs the baton to the wrong court.

Of the Candidates for the 3 by-elections...

Anwar`s choice for PKR candidate in Bukit Selambau was condemed as a betrayal of Makkal Sakthi and Hindraf. The ultimatum by the Makkal Sakthi to drop the candidate or face protest and lose Indian voters is expected to undermine the Pakatan campaign.

And now as expected , the drumroll continued to roll on and Anwar revealed his choice for PKR candidate for the state seat of Batang Ai`s by-election.

Former Lubok Antu member of Parliament Jawah Gerang, has been named as PKR's candidate for the April 7 Batang Ai Sarawak state seat by-election. Batang Ai is one of the two state seats in Lubok Antu parliamentry constituency. The other is Engkilili.

Gerang, 55, is a degree holder in economics from Universiti of Malaya. The former bank officer joined PKR recently after he was dropped by the Barisan Nasional coalition in last year’s parliamentary election.

Gerang, who was a senior leader in the now defunct Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS), was chosen over PKR state deputy chief Nicholas Bawin.Nicholas Bawin is made the director of election.

At the same time Barisan has named new-comer and engineer Malcom Mussen Lamoh as its sparring candidate.

While PKR is fighting an uphill battle in Batang Ai with huge and unlimited financial resources; and loosing the grip of a seemingly sure seat for PKR in Bukit Selambau , we await PAS to reveal his candidate for Bukit Gantang tonight.

Can Pakatan made a hatrick victory this time come 7 April 2009? With all differences put aside, together we shall await.

Looking at the political turmoil now,the more BN need to work harder too even though in the midst of the buzzle and hussle of the on-going UMNO election/ general assembly in PWTC.

All eyes of the world are upon these three by-election –its all about the hope of the rakyat for a just,clean and democratic country for all.

Parachute candidate or wrong DNAs in PR leadership???

PKR had chosen the candidate for Bukit Selambau by-election –S.Manikumar, 35, a multi-lingual entrepreneur and an ordinary PKR member from Sungai Petani. He has a tourism management degree and an MBA from Universiti Utara Malaysia and had joined PKR two years.

However straight after PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement, there was protest from some 20 PKR supporters from the Merbok division, which had previously backed its division committee member, K.Masilamani.

It was reported that they are unhappy with Manikumar’s nomination citing him as the parachute candidate as he is an unknown and not a local born. Before the announcement, there were three front runners to the party`s candidate- Masilamani, a Sungai Petani municipal councillor,and the other two were Sungai Petani PKR division member Dr R Krishnamoorthy and the division’s committee member S. Sritharan.

Then we heard there was a protest by PKR calling for Mohd Ali to step down as Chief Minister and vacate the state seat for Bukit Baru even though the five members- appeal panel`s decision had endorsed the ruling made by the party`s disciplinary boards on him. The march did not material but several representatives led by PAS youth chief Shamsul Iskandar,arrived at Seri Negeri to hand over the memorandum to a Seri Negeri employee. Can the punishment not takes its course? There was allegation of double standard. Punishment depends on intensity and varying degree of cases.

And now after several days of speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairuz Khairuddin has resigned.

Mohammad Fairuz who hold two Masters degrees, has often been criticised for under-performance and rumoured to be investigated in the allegation that two senior state party leaders were working with local quarry operators to cover up illegal activities.

Mohd Fairuz `s resignation or the so-called many protests of Pakatan opposition of late is not a surprise to many because it is always easy to critic than administrate. Apparently it was claimed that Mohd Fairuz had not performed the duties entrusted to him well and that it was the best he resigned.`

Their taking to streets to protest in the name of democracy is also seen as their way to vent out their frustrations or perhaps a quick –fix for the grassroots. It looks as though street demos are beginning to be a trend in our culture.

All in all these give the impression that there are too many wrong DNAs (Do Not Agree) among the PR. Even PAS spiritual advisor Nik Aziz had to remind his president~ I am the captain of the ship.

It shows that running a government is not easy. Can PR be capable leaders/ adminstrator if the government of the day is in their hands.We have seen for a year down into power ,their job is solely on critising and slandering their opposition- the BN-Umno. For some of the little developments that they had managed to take-off were made possible by the existing state of development that were rendered by the previous BN government-do not be confused.The rich fisherman in Kuala Sepetang,for an example, were not made within a year under the leadership of PAS ??? Big or small,they have benefited from the development and subsidies given by the BN government.That is a fact.

There is no concensus in their adminstrative agenda and good quality selection of leadership. Need the grassroots take to streets or demos crazy each time to have their interests heard ? If that is the way, what a chaotic country we are turning into soon?

We have to think DOUBLE hard.Who should be in power?

To the three by-election voters in Bukit Gantang, Bukit Selambau and Bukit Ai

BN Candidate for Bukit Gantang-a chosen best for the grassroots!!!.

Bukit Gantang is a small town and parliament constituency in Perak, Malaysia.It is famous for its durian orchards.There is a nice small stream at the nearby Bukit Berapit.Did you know too one of the longest train tunnel in Malaysia is also found in this hilly area.

But come April 7 , all eyes will set upon this lush greenery.

Bukit Gantang is gearing towards a by election following the demise of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party parliamentarian, Roslan Shahrum, on February 9 2009.

In the March 2008 general elections, Roslan polled 20,015 votes against the 18,449 garnered by Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi.The third candidate M. Morgan, an Independent candidate, received 872 votes .

As a Malaysian who is going to exercise his elecgtoral rights again, it is his duty to know the man he is putting his vote for this time around. Knowing the candidate who you are going to cast the vote for helps decision-making easier and frees oneself from the hassle of political woes.

What then are the expectations of Bukit Gantangnians? A POLITICAL PUPPET ? A FEROCIOUS TIGER ? A ASPIRING BUT LAWLESS POLITICIAN? OR ONE WITH LOCAL ROOTS, BRAINS AND VAST EXPERIENCE?

This time around BN has fielded a local, Ismail Saffian to this constituency of 55,471 voters of whom 63.48 per cent are Malay voters, 26.77 Chinese, 9.71 per cent Indians and others, 0.4 per cent.

Ismail, 49, the former Bukit Gantang Umno division information chief, was chosen because he is a local and accepted by the grassroots and the Bukit Gantang Umno leadership.

Ismail, a local from Kampung Kubu, Bukit Gantang, is also the Human Resources and Management Services Director of the National Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Corporation.

The precondition was, however, imposed on Ismail is, he would not contest in the next divisional elections. In last year's divisional elections, Ismail lost to Trong state assemblyman Datuk Rosli Hu-sin in the contest for the post of Bukit Gantang Umno division chief.

The by-election is held simultaneously with the by-elections for the Bukit Selambau state seat in Kedah and Batang Ai state seat in Sarawak.
