My dear listeners ,I believe today there is among other things, a great growing concern over rising price of fuel.
As reported by Radio Australia on 27.5.08- " ... Malaysia says it will restrict sales of petrol and diesel to foreign motorists to prevent abuse of fuel subsidies.The domestic trade Minister,Shahrir Samad, says some 300 filling stations in towns bordering Singapore and Thailand will be barred from selling fuel to non-Malaysian registered vehicles from May 31 .." It was reported such a move could anger its neighbours.
BBC London on 27.5.08 also reported that "...Malaysia fuel ban on foreigners is an attempt to curb spiralling cost of government subsidies.The ban will take effect on Friday and will be lifted as soon as prices can be set at market level.The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia says , taxpayers` money is being used to subsidise petrol for those who are not entitled to receive subsidy.Foreigners should not take advantage of the subsidy scheme...and until the ban is lifted,those who break the new ruling could be fined or face a jail sentence.."
As you know,Malaysia,a non-OPEC oil producer,has some of Asia`s lowest diesel and petrol prices due to government subsidies.Malaysia says its subsidy bill could hit a record of 45 billion ringgit or $US 15.5 billion this year as crude oil prices reach record high.
Did you know while the Indonesian government has since last week raised fuel prices by nearly 30% ,Malaysian government has postphoned any fuel price hike , at least not until September or as when circumstances arise.
Given such situations, would fuel price hike be inevitable and prompt fears of widespread unrest as like in Indonesia? Would fuel ban on foreigners affect tourism and relations with Malaysia`s neighbours? Let us put our thoughts together to ponder !!!!!!!!!!!!!

As according to the local news in Malaysia today,foreigner would have to pay the full unsubsidised fuel price if they need to re-fill at locality 50km from the border towns of Malaysia..is a very fair deal cos in the eyes of the foreigners, unsubsidised fuel price is still cheap esp.for the Singaporeans
It is only fair for the rakyat and the govt.of Malaysia as the way out to curb this imported spiralling inflation as a result ofrising oil price.
Its high time too the govt.should remove the subsidised health care for the foreigner and expartriates in Malaysia.
Subsidies saved from fuel n health care pays to ease the rakyat other plights.

ada banyak cara menarik pelancung ke Malaysia tapi kami tak boleh tanggung subsidy untuk keselesaan mereka sehingga kami jadi rakyat miskin...
kerajaan mesti tegas dengan undang-undang untuk `fuel ban on foreigners` ..takpe business stesen minyak kurang sikit daripada kami menanggung kenaikan mendadak harga petrol.Kami tak nak harga minyak
naik lagi,nanti semua naik juga-tak boleh tahan hidup

I strongly agree that foreigners should pay for the full price of unsubsidised fuel price and not be barred from purchasing fuel cos as foreign motorist,they will never know when they will run dry esp.when they are not familiar with their land-route and laws are not spell out properly at the entry points of the border towns yet.
Locals wanting to buy fuel at vicinity of 50km petrol station should do so with Mykad.This is to prevent smuggling and Malaysian local people should cooperate in curbing these illegal opportunists.
Subsidies saved should be given out to local public bus operators to help them in operation as it is the lower rung citizens that is using public transport.The government should regulate public bus fares in order not to burden the commuters esp. students and senior citizens as already cost of living is so unbearable now.

Hi all
I can`t help but to give my 2 sen to how we Malaysians can help reduce the cost of fuel subsidy and check inflation...CUT DOWN WASTAGE!!!!!!
1. Do not leave TV sets on when no one is watching.
2.Do not leave air-conditions on when no one is at home
3.Do not leave taps running for too long or waste water unnecessary
4. Cut down the use of cars---car pool or use LRT at every possible chance or simply walk longer distance for errands near homes.
5.Want not waste not when shopping or dining out.
REMEMBER GENERATING ELECTRICITY AND PROVIDING WATER REQUIRES FOSSIL FUEL.
