Fairus Khairuddin QUIT--- by-election ploy looms, rakyat already fatigued with costly polls

Fairus Khairuddin finaly quited as Deputy Chief Minister I of Penang and also as the state assemblyman for Penanti, following allegations that he covered up illegal quarrying activities.

In an interview with Nanyang Siang Pau recently, the PKR leader threatened to expose potentially damaging information about Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state government, claiming that he had been framed by party insiders. He also claimed that he was a victim of internal politics

It is understood that internal bickering is the main reason why Anwar has been unable to fill the DCM post vacancy. The squabbling has put Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in a fix. It is also a by-election that the CM would not want.

The by-election for the seat, which falls under Anwar’s parliamentary constituency, will be the sixth after the March 8 general election last year. And it is the 3rd by –election called for by PKR as the result of the resignation of PKR leaders due to personal reasons or `tainted –representative` issue.

This is a costly affair for taxpayer and a waste of time. The five by-elections which have been held following the 2008 general election have already cost Malaysian taxpayers RM 33.4 million.

Amount Spent:-
P44 Permatang Pauh (26.08.08)-- RM 409,000.00 (EC) -- RM 2.5 mil.(Police)
P36 Kuala Trengganu (24.01.09)
--RM 580,000.00 (EC)
---RM 11.5 mil.(Police)
N29 Batang Ai (07.04.09 )
---RM 400,000.00 (EC)
-- - RM 5 mil.(Police)
N25 Bukit Selambau (07.04.09)
--- RM 400,000.00 (EC)
--- RM 5 mil.(Police)
P29 Bukit Gantang (07.04.09)
----RM 600,000.00 (EC)
----RM 7 mil.(Police)
Total spending ---- RM 2.4mil.(EC)
----RM 31 mil.(Police) =RM33.4mil.
Where did the money go?:-
Election commission(EC)-for paying election workers, staff allowances, printing costs, transportation including helicopters and accommodation.

Police- for temporary bases and tents, logistics and transportation, accommodation, rental, electricity and outstation allowances.

Political parties- millions on printing billboards, banners, posters, newsletters, logistic, transportation, accommodation and food for volunteers.

Deputy Election commission chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the potential Penanti by-election could cost Election Commission another RM 300,000.00 depending on the number of registered voters and the remoteness of the area.

Phew!! What costly polls alright ?

PM: Too much being spent on unnecessary by-elections

Speaking at a recent press conference, after opening the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysias (ACCCIM) 63rd annual general meeting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said,
" National Resources are being wasted on calling for by-elections when the nation should be concentrating on strengthening its economy,”

“It is different if an elected representative has passed away, then he has to be replaced but resignations are political decisions which can also be regarded as a political ploy for specific reasons,” he added.

“Malaysians did not like by-elections that were held deliberately.”

Good news is that BN may not contest Penanti by-election, if it obtains the consensus of all component parties, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in another event in Pekan today.

Najib said he did not rule out such a possibility as the latest by-election in Penang was clearly a "political ploy" by the Opposition.

"No, we are not afraid of losing to them but it is a sheer waste of public funds.”

"Whatever decision we make, we will take into consideration whether it benefits the people.”

Anwar - who is believed to have "forced" the by-election to prevent the graft allegations against Fairus from blowing up and to avert any possibility of him defecting to the United Malays National Organisation - has come under fire for the decision, but kept silent about the issue over the last week.

HOW Anwar handles the controversy surrounding the resignations of Penang Deputy Chief Minister and assemblyman Fairus Khairuddin will be one of the main issues in the upcoming by-election in Penanti, said Penang’s Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Several figures were dropped, amongst which were Rural Affairs Minister Muhammad Muhammad Taib, Tourism Minister Azalina Othman and Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar.

Khairy was omitted from Najib's new line-up.

Traditionally the youth chief sits in the cabinet but Khairy was philosophical about the decision, and said Najib had asked him to concentrate on building support for UMNO among younger voters, who have been shifting to the opposition.

"It's a difficult time that requires extraordinary measures... I have been asked by the prime minister to focus on the party and I accept the challenge,"

The functions of the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development will be absorbed by other ministries -- for example, small and medium enterprise development will come under International Trade and Industry, while Mara and Tekun will be overseen by Rural and Regional Development.

Najib also announced that he would be forming a Council of Economic Advisers, consisting of between six and eight experts who will advise him directly on economic matters. The chairman of the Council will have ministerial rank but would not be part of the Cabinet.

The new ministers and deputy ministers will take their oath of office at Istana Negara at 9.30am Friday

BN RETAINS BATANG AI, LOSES BUKIT GANTANG AND BUKIT SELAMBAU—reactions in Bukit Selambau

PKR retained the Bukit Selambau state seat with a slightly increased majority of 2,403 votes.

S. Manikumar polled 12,632 votes against Barisan Nasional's Datuk S. Ganesan's 10,229 votes. There were 415 spoilt votes.

All the 13 independent candidates lost their deposits as they failed to poll one-eighth of the ballots cast. Collectively they polled just 1,326 votes.

A scene at the Bukit Selambau by-election which ended with its much anticipated heated hue-cry from both sides of the supporters .

The Bukit Selambau by-election was called after incumbent and Kedah state executive councillor V. Arumugam resigned over morality issues.

A quick analysis of the votes showed that BN had gained some ground in rural areas of the constituency but fared badly in the urban polling stations in Sungai Petani. Some 12,000 of the seat's 35,140 voters reside in Sungai Petani town.

PKR, which began campaigning for this election high on confidence of retaining the seat with an increased majority, was somewhat subdued as polling neared as it had to deal with the "feel good effect" from Datuk Seri Najib Razak's assumption of the prime ministership.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's campaign sojourn here on Thursday also rattled PKR.

But PKR kept plodding on and repeatedly told voters that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak had committed to appoint the winning candidate as an exco member.

Victorious Manikumar said he will work hard to justify voters' faith in him.

Manikumar is to be made Kedah Exco on april 19 after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak sought consent today from the state ruler.

"I feel good and happy. Thank you to the Bukit Selambau voters for giving me the mandate to be their representative," he said,

Ganesan accepted the outcome."I will continue to serve the voters here. I will take a break for a while. It has been hectic," he said.

Crestfallen, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said that the Indian votes had improved significantly for BN.

"Even though we are disappointed, we accept the verdict. We will continue to work hard to gain the confidence of the Indian community and the people."

BN election director Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the coalition had to work harder to convince people that there is a change in the coalition's leadership and convince them of the positive impact it would bring.

"BN has taken note of the result and will rectify any shortcoming. PKR is the incumbent and it was expected to have the advantage over the BN."

State BN chief Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the coalition accepted the result and would continue to work for the people of Bukit Selambau.

PKR vice-president Azmin Ali said the PKR and PAS' win in Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang, respectively, brought a message to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the need for Umno and the Barisan Nasional to work hard to win the people's hearts

BN RETAINS BATANG AI, LOSES BUKIT GANTANG AND BUKIT SELAMBAU—reactions in Bukit Gantang

PAS RETAINS BUKIT GANTANG

Ousted menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin won the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat, beating BN candidate Ismail Saffian and independent Kamarul Rami-zu Idris.

The 52-year-old polled 21,860 votes against Ismail's 19,071 while Kamarul only managed to secure 62 votes and lost his deposit.

Nizar's 2,789-vote majority over Ismail is almost double the majority obtained by former Pas member of parliament, the late Roslan Shah-rom, in last year's general election.Roslan defeated BN candidate and Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Azim Zabidi with a 1,566-vote majority.

Nizar's victory, however, was not a surprise as political observers had expected him to garner sympathy votes due to the political impasse in the state.

Nizar was told to step down as menteri besar on Feb 5 by the Perak ruler after Pakatan Rakyat lost the majority in the state assembly when three state assemblymen quit their parties and declared themselves as independents "friendly" to BN.

Asked as to his immediate concerns, Mohammad Nizar said he wants to unify the people of Bukit Gantang so that they can work with PR.

"We are going to request for a quick and urgent dissolution of the Perak government so that the constitutional crisis in Perak can be resolved and that will be my immediate action to stabilise the political scenario in Perak,” he added.

Ismail said he accepted the results of the polls.

"Now, it is time for Nizar to act on the promises he has made to the people here,” he said.

The Election Commission said 75.1 per cent or 41,626 of the 55,562 voters cast their ballots despite yesterday being a working day and a one-hour downpour in the afternoon. The total number of registered voters is 55,462, of which 63.5% are Malays, 27.1% Chinese, and 9.1% Indians.

The semi-rural parliamentary constituency is made up of the three state constituencies of Changkat Jering, Trong and Kuala Sepetang

BN RETAINS BATANG AI, LOSES BUKIT GANTANG AND BUKIT SELAMBAU—reactions in Batang Ai

BN wins Batang Ai by-election shows -No room for PKR in Sarawak and Victory an endorsement of Najib.

BN candidate Malcom Mussen Lamoh polled 3,907 votes beating PKR's Jawah Gerang who managed 2,053, delivering the ruling coalition a 1,854-vote majority.

In the 2006 state elections, the late Datuk Dublin Unting of BN retained the seat with a 806-vote majority

"This is the end of the beginning for PKR. There was so much talk about the rural folks, particularly the Ibans, being anti-BN and anti-establishment but my people have clearly expressed their trust in the BN government.

"I promise them that I will serve to the best of my ability and ensure that the standard of living is gradually improved. This is my pledge in return for their trust in BN and me as the candidate," Mussen said.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the landslide BN victory was a clear indication that the people of Sarawak supported the new prime minister.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Datuk Seri Jame Masing, meanwhile, attributed the win to BN's ability to stand united against its adversaries.

"This is BN's victory and it proves beyond any doubt the people's continued trust in our ability to govern this state and the country well.

"Our detractors can say anything that they want but at the end of the day what matters is the rakyat.

""We may have our shortcomings but in the BN we work as one family."

TUN MAHATHIR IN BUKIT GANTANG

Tun Mahathir arrived at Dataran PPP in Simpang, Taiping this morning on his election campaign trail. Tun was mobbed by more than 5,000 people who surged to shake hands with him.

At the rally, Tun smashed Bukit Gantang PAS's candidate, Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin for giving out permanent land title to villagers in the state.

"He (Nizar) is doing everything to be popular. He is not sincere," he said to thunderous applause from the floor.

Tun also smashed Nizar for defying Sultan Azlan Shah`s order to resign and renewed his attacks on Anwar who was too impatient to be rise in rank and irresponsible.

“That man only knows how to create uncertainty. He promised something big would happen on Sept 16 (last year) but nothing happened. Then he promised something special for the people, and nothing materialised,” he said to loud cheers.

Tun said even though we are a liberalised country but it was not easy to run a multi-racial country.

"If we do something for a certain group of people, the other groups will be upset. I kena marah (scolded) for 22 years but never mind, I sudah biasa (used to it)," he said.

Saying that now he has officially rejoined UMNO, Tun fully supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak,UMNO ,BN and Ismail Saffian , a local boy, as the most appropriate Bukit Gantang candidate.

Tun called those who had left the party to return back to the party like him.

“Times have changed. The government today is truly for the people. So I am urging those who had left Umno, please come back,” he said.

Tun said he was confident that with the new present administration , steps would be taken to address people’s unhappiness.

"What do we get by demonstrating on the streets, except causing damage?

"Street demonstrations are not part of Malaysian culture and are a waste of time. Dialogue is the best way to resolve unhappiness and differences."

Tun called on the people to work together with the government for the nation and rakyat.

And as he completed his speech, Tun was given a standing ovation.

Tun`s presence in Bukit Gantang is like the return of an old warrior to the political areana after about 4 years of absence. Tun is garnering votes in this last leg of election campaign trail.

Many look towards Tun rejoining UMNO as the unifying factor in UMNO and spark for the renewal of BN towards the Vision of attaining One Malaysia under the leadership of the Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the 6th Prime Minister.

Since merdeka, the rakyat of Malaysia has grown, work and built this One Malaysia to this level for all. There is no or U-turn back now. Let not race, language ,culture or party issue put us apart again.

Unveiling Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks in Bukit Gantang?

Today in our walk-about in the town of Bukit Gantang, we were surprised to see Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks been distributed like pancake.

Are the locals here having a Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar Halloween party or a by –election? If not careful, one can see these masks resembling those sacrificial paper offerings used in the on-going Cheng Beng rituals in Bukit Gantang.

Why Altantunya ?

IGP Tan Sri Musa had already clarified that campaign gag covered all pending court cases.

We have put the condition that criminal matters before the courts cannot be discussed in the open. It is sub judice,” he said, adding that other conditions included barring speakers from touching on seditious matters, using slander or giving out misinformation.

The locals here are taking a risk to challenge the police and a contempt of court charges? People of Bukit Gantang let the court take its course .

By wearing these Altantunya- Anwar -Nizar masks to protest against Barisan Nasional is no show of intelliegent solidarity but victims of manipulation by Anwar and Nizar to gain their political mileage. They are portraying themselves as man with many faces.

In short Anwar and Nizar are `political chameleon` with deceiving character behind those masks.

Quote and unquote- `Nizar claims that he is an impressive man of immense grace and character who represents Perak's future, not its past. The former Perak Menteri Besar is feted by Anwar Ibrahim as the best thing in years to have happened to Malaysia's democratic transition. His record in power is mixed: full of rhetoric, covert intentions to uphold the political free speech, but lacking many practical achievements.`

Now my question is how much do we know Anwar-Nizar behind those halloween masks?

ANWAR, an Islam by faith, still has impending sodomy case to settle. Carrying that baggage along , he supossedly champion for equality for all race and helping the poor but often than not incite racial sentiments that cause rakyat to resort to street demos against each other and the government. Is this called democracy or demos cracy?

He has suposedly slacked while in TPM office and now dreams of becoming PM with his promise of 16 September New Government shattered.

Nizar, with his confused identity of a chinese or malay, makes a mockery of the Perak state government with his TREEmendous dream .

His ` puppeted-administration` by Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and state DAP sceretary Nga Kor Ming incites political chaos in Perak. His uncalled giving of 999 years land titles to the new and planned villages in Perak is much dictated by DAP and created many dissatisfactions among the poor and needy group.

NIZAR never understood the Land Code that govern state land matters.

His refusal to return his Toyota Camry shows his `gangster- greedy` character, as a man who does not respect laws or rules and regulations.

His swearing`Derhaka` at Perak Sultan shows his lack of understanding and respect for the Constitution and his dissatisfaction of being dismissed. Is this a man of grace and character that we can entrust the future of Perak to his hands?

Unveiling Altantunya-Anwar-Nizar masks got us to see the manifested faces of Anwar-Nizar.

To the Bukit Gantang voters, do not be stressed out by the deceptions of these 2 politcal chameleons.

THINK RIGHT for the good of Bukit Gantang. You do not have to be frightened or live behind their masks too?

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT.

Funding campaign machinery in Bukit Gantang?

One can imagine the competitive race to outbeat each other in raising banners, flags and heated ceramahs in any town each time when there is an election going on.

Bukit Gantang is of no exception this time around. Eventhough the election day is just round the corner now, but what strikes us most is that at this time of economic meltdown, PAS can afford to have such an hype-fanfare.

Giant banners that can
cover a house front-side
are common sights
everywhere –COST ?

Is PAS soliciting this kind of HARAM funding for its election campaign machinery? Or are these premises their sponsor ?Losing grip on their Islamic ideology, huh !!!!

A walk-around in Bukit Gantang one can never miss these kinds of giants poster cum banners potraying their leaders and usually carrying slandering smear too.

Impressive Giant posters at
what COST ?

Impressive operation
centre too?

We got curious –How did Pas get his funding for such massive scale of operation?

Later we were told to ask these 2 guys below who were reported to have met to save PAS from going bankrupt. And the drama unfold! PAS urgently needs:-

1.Funding for running near-busted State Government in Kelantan and
Kedah.

2.Funding for PAKATAN election campaign machinery in BUKIT
SELAMBAU, BUKIT GANTANG DAN BATANG AIR.

3.Funding to sustain deposed PAKATAN leaders surviving in Perak .

4.Funding to quickly executive a few projects in Pulau Pinang and

Selangor that have not been implemented yet

5.Funding to fight and uproot Najib from his premiership .

" Pendedahan Eksklusif - PERTEMUAN EKSKLUSIF Saifuddin Nasution Ketua Penerangan GSPS Pas Pusat Meminta Bantuan Kewangan Dari Singapura!!!!!

Barulah seluruh rakyat Malaysia tahu dimana sebenarnya PAS dapat ambil duit mereka untuk tujuan Pilihanraya.. Dengan duit Mereka sanggup MENGADAIKAN PARTI DAN NEGARA INI!!!!!!

Shahboy
Naib Presiden 1 Gabungan Pemimpin Mahasiswa Malaysia (GPMM) "

Apparently a deal was closed because it was seen Walter Chia who is a Mr.Sombebody big in Singapore, left in a black car wearing a black sun glass followed by Saifuddin, with two black suitcase..

For the man on the street, be alert. PAS is an Islamic party that should be upholding Islamic virtues and not misuse the people`s trust and empowerment to be invovled in politics. PAS has gone off tangent now to go at all means to fulfill his other PAKATAN component in slicking for the parliament seat in Bukit Gantang.

The voters in Bukit Gantang have to decide fast whether to accept PAS, a party that has become a stoope for DAP Ngah-Ngeh and is manipulated for Anwar`s political game.

Do not be deceived or brain-washed by their convincing twisted -facts and slandering ceramah talks?

In any race or battle, the winner takes all and the losers like Ah Kow, Mutu or Ahmad die standing up.

Think hard and be rationale.

Later we were asked of the question below and got invited to a much awaited ceramah tomorrow, as told by a local in Bukit Gantang.

"DO WE NEED A STRONG GOVERNMENT?"Yes We Do! .... Bukit Gantang Voters.

ENTER NAJIB WITH WAVE OF REFORMATION-another PKR plot blown !!!!

Many who used to attend the many night ceramahs will have heard of a PKR intended surprise announcemnt that have something to do with the swearing-in of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as the country’s sixth Prime Minister.

Unfortunately the announcement never came or understood but the swearing –in of 6th Prime Minister went on smoothly as scheduled on 3 April 2009.

In his maiden speech calling for the rakyat to work together to renew Malaysia through ONE MALAYSIA, putting PEOPLE FIRST and PERFORMANCE NOW, Datuk Seri Najib has shown his commitment to change and reform.

He has announced the freeing of the 13 from ISA detention, and to retract the suspension order on two papers - Harakah and Suara Keadilan with immediate effect.

In spite of the fact Anwar himself and PAS welcome the move , PKR de facto leader still protests against this draconian law and also played down the significance of the move, no doubt conscious of the effect it could have on the three by-elections on Tuesday.

Much as many people know, opposition tried hard to discredit Najib since Ijok by-election in 2007.

On the eve of Najib`s formal confirmation to the Presidency of UMNO, the foreign press and major newspapers came out with conspiracy stories on the Altantunya murder and military deals.

As we heard too that Anwar was trying hard to get an appointment with the Agong in the last 10 days but to no avail. Suposedly it seemed Anwar used Federal court judge and legal advisor to Agong to seek Agong not to accept Abdullah's resignation.

PKR promise of September 16 Governmnet was also another blown plot if one may recall.

My question is- Can the people of the 3 by –election still trust such PAKATAN promises that PAKATAN is the reliable party to be voted in as the government ?

The release of the 13 ISA detainees is a timely decision as we move to enhance the confidence of our rakyat in those entrusted with maintaining peace, law and order, while recognising the need to remain vigilant of the very real security threats we continue to face as a young nation.

It is not a sign of bowing down to the demands of PKR nor a PKR victory.

THINK HARD AGAIN before you use the power of your vote.

WE say NO more to instability in the country. We need reforms to ride the economic recession. In this we have to give our supportive mandate to the New Prime Minister for him to show his change .

Bukit Gantang hustings turn dirty-a ploy to dupe the voters

Oops !!! skew me, some Brains had a TREEmendous session thinking why ,why their leaders complained that ceramahs permits issued by the police district chief to them stated specifically that they were not allowed to talk openly about Altantunya case and the decision of the Perak Sultan in State government?

Answer to their WHY :-

TRIPLE BY-ELECTIONS: IGP clarifies that campaign gag covered all pending court cases.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan has clarified that he never gave instructions to the Taiping police district chief to specifically bar Pakatan Rakyat from talking about the Altantunya Shaariibuu court case.

Musa said the police, as a practice, would never state specific cases which were not to be discussed in ceramah.

“We have put the condition that criminal matters before the courts cannot be discussed in the open. It is sub judice,” he said, adding that other conditions included barring speakers from touching on seditious matters, using slander or giving out misinformation.

The public is urged to refer to article 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 of Police Penal code for that matter.

In another note, the fight to gain voters’ support in Bukit Gantang has turned dirty. Numerous poison pen letters and pamphlets running down the Barisan Nasional have been distributed to thousands of households here since Wednesday night.

One letter with an Umno letterhead and allegedly signed by Umno Bukit Gantang division secretary Jamaee Idris stated that BN machinery workers, who helped out on a voluntary basis, will receive payments.

Another alleged that a function organised by the Public Complaints Bureau had free food and featured lucky draws with attractive prizes.

The pamphlets, meanwhile, linked Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak with murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

OOOOOOOOOOOPS the BRAINS were put wrongly together at the TREEmendous session

REPERCUSSIONS:-
A police report was lodged at the Changkat Jering police station today.

Muhyiddin : refuted the allegation and said this was the work of the opposition who were feeling the heat of the BN’s progress with the voters as a result of the transformation to be introduced by the BN..

`They were a ploy by the opposition to dupe the voters and create the impression that there were conflicts in Umno and tarnishing the image of the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Ismail Saffian. `

Zambry: Such actions as irresponsible and immoral.Such tactics was part of a psy-war to confuse the people.

Syed Hamid: For PAS willing to ignore the Police's orders not to make seditious statements when campaigning for the three upcoming by-elections shows the party lacks respect for the law,

WATCH OUT for whatever history that may be created in the TREEmendous
session, the world will dupe it as BRAINS wrongly put together to confuse and incite chaos in the country.

The tendency of PAS to "do whatever it thinks is right and likes" could lead to instability in the country.

Such TREEmendous party if voted in to rule will create lawless society.

Panaurama Bukit Gantang -Nizar trembles while BN dishes out TOLs

LAND ISSUE IN PERAK UNFOLD

The granting of many hectares of land to the Chinese communities in the New Villages as well as to Chinese schools and associations have alienated the Malay community who feel that they have been sidelined with the economic pie not being distributed evenly.

CAN THIS BE THE RATIONALE FOR IT?

DID YOU KNOW?

PAS influence in Perak is minimal as the party only won six state seats unlike their coalition partners DAP and PKR who won more seats than PAS.

But due to the state’s constitution, where it is stated that only a Malay Muslim can become the menteri besar of the state, Nizar Jamaluddin of PAS became the MB as there was no other qualified Malay candidates from PKR who fit the bill.He became a stooge of the DAP who called the shots in running the state.

As a result from the panuarama Bukit Gantang -

`Only temporary land titles can be issued, for now; ` ZAMBRY

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is actively holding discussions with all the relevant bodies to enable the Chinese and other communities to get titles to their land.

He, however, said there were certain issues that needed to be addressed first, especially when they went against the provisions of the National Land Code.

In some cases, he added, the state government had issued them with temporary land titles but many still questioned why they were only for 10 years.

“They need to understand that. That is the law. The provision says that even if the maximum is 60 years, it cannot be issued in one go,” he said.

He said the first instalment would be for a maximum of 10, followed by another 10 or 20 or 30, depending on the state government when for renewal came up.

He refuted allegations that he was anti-Chinese and had never tried to prevent the community from getting titles to their land.

The land issue is one of many raised by the opposition in their campaign rounds for the Bukit Gantang by-election.

On promises made by the previous government to issue permanent land title to various quarters, Zambry said he did not know how they had planned to implement them as they were against the provisions under the National Land Code.

“They forgot about the NLC. Although the state and mentris besar have certain power over land matters, when it come to policy matters, it must be agreed by all states.

“In this case, if Perak wants to do it, it must also be implemented by other states.

“Why did Penang, Kelantan, Kedah or Selangor not want to do it too? So this is a policy matter that must be clarified,” he added.

Yes, the three coming by-elections results will determine our country’s direction but past performance is not an indicator of future performance.

LAND is a limited comodity. Therefore it has to be used for national development for all and not as an agenda for political mileage by any parties.
